I bet it's even less than that. I read through google reader and rarely comment, but I'm reading! I do try to comment, especially on projects - I know the work that goes into them and like to acknowledge, but other than that I'm fairly quiet.
Well I have over 700 readers a day and average comments are around 20, and on a high day maybe 50 comments so I would say less than 1% is more accurate.
The statistic doesn't surprise me at all. Many times there are no comments or very few....BUT....if you want to see how many are reading, just have a giveaway..UNANNOUNCED...and you will have lots of comments! LOL
I try to comment as much as I can but if my words aren't flowing - it's just not going to happen. I can't help it. Unless I just typed "I was here" which seems kinda cheesy!
Yes, I like to leave a comment, too. However, that said, I will stop commenting on a blog that I never get a reply from. I reply to all my commenters...I just think it's the right thing to do! Do you?
I like to leave comments and usually do on the blogs I read regularly, but admit there are times when I just blog hop and read new blogs without commenting. But I will bookmark ones that grab me and go back and comment later after I "get to know" the blog. Funny!
I have to ask - your quote "all I can say is wow" - is it from a children's book? I seem to remember the same quote from a book we used to read to our daughters. Happy New Year!

It's a rather stunning statistic. I am going to try to leave more comments on blogs I read in the coming year.

I spend alot more time reading than commenting. I'm in the 98%--unless they comment on my blog regularly--then I comment more often on theirs. :)
