Is there anything more pretty?

single iris (Besides a red rose, my cats, etc.)

iris Maybe a whole group of Irises...

Many of you know that I am a student at American University in Washington, D.C. these lovely flowers are on the other side of the road out side of the parking lot. As I go into the building where my class meets (Ward Circle Building) if I look over my back, I see these... I liked them so much that I walked by them on the way to my car after class last night.

I have come to the conclusion that a group of the same flower is so much nicer than one here, one there... (IMHO)

I hope you enjoy them too.

I was going to photograph some fabric - but I was bushed by the time I actually got home...

I would keep scissors in my car and sneak a few weekly for the kitchen table. They are beautiful....

One flower can make a statement, but nothing like fields and fields of them. I grew up where flowers were grown for seed. There is just nothing like flowers as far as the eye can see.

I love irises and have a whole lot of them but nothing that color. Those are gorgeous! And, I agree that in most instances, quite a few of the same is very striking. I love flowers!

I actually prefer the iris to a rose. A field of color is beautiful.

The iris are gorgeous! Where we used to live there was an iris farm nearby. In May you would go and pick out your bulbs and pay for them and in the fall they would call you to come pick them up. I had beautiful iris all around our barn. I just love them.

Absolutely beautiful. I adore purple flowers, and your photography brings the colours out so brilliantly.

These are such gorgeous flowers! And you are right, they look better in a bunch. I had some yellow flowers that bloomed so nicely in a bunch, but they didn't come back last year. Maybe the weeds didn't like them.

Oh, how lovely. And I've been to American's campus, it is a fantastic place to walk around. But the traffic to get there and back -- eeeek. You drive the beltway on a regular basis. Brave woman.

The irises are absolutely beautiful with the deep purple. Thanks for the refreshing pictures.

Very nice! I like the visual impact of the field of them... but think I like the closeup best. Is it better to get to know one well or a group from a distance? :)

The irises are gorgeous! Such a beautiful color, too. I remember fields of poppies when we visited Germany several years ago.

What a lovely thing to see right before you go into class....absolutely stunning! I agree that the whole field is more impressive than a single flower. Thanks for sharing.

I'm definately a "more is better" when it comes to flowers kind of person. I just LOVE the whole fields of wildflowers we have around now.

I love iris. I have both bearded iris and Siberian iris. I started with lots of colors of bearded ones but they seem to have mutated into only a few. My favorite is a deep brown one that is almost black and looks like velvet.

Dividing the iris and cleaning out that bed was one of the things the gardeners did for us. I didn't begin to want to tackle it - it was totally full of grass in among all the iris tubers.
